EDUCATION AND REGISTRATION

Received undergraduate degree with Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri in Kansas City, July 1983.  Obtained Certificate of Completion in Electronics Training from Fort Osage Vocational Technical School and Diploma for general studies from Fort Osage High School in Independence, Missouri, May 1978.

Received original registration as a Professional Engineer from the State of Missouri, March 1989. Maintains current registration in the States of North Carolina and Virginia. Active member of NSPE (National Society of Professional Engineers), PENC, NFPA. Previous member and vice president of the local chapter of the IES (Illuminating Engineering Society).

 EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Has over 25 years of hands on engineering experience, including 16 years with manufacturing, architectural and consulting engineering firms, with responsibilities for complete detailed design and implementation of institutional, commercial, industrial, and health care projects. Specializing in design build projects. Directly involved with client marketing and proposals, project staffing and supervision, development of design concepts, manpower estimates and cost estimates. Responsible for all phases of design and construction including computer assisted calculations, CADD layout and drafting of final bid documents, enlarged plans, details, schematics, and specifications, coordination with local authorities, review of bids, equipment selections and submittal drawings, and onsite construction observation.

Familiar with all major electrical building systems including medium voltage (5-25KV) and low voltage (480V) power distribution, switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, lighting, building automation, isolated power, low voltage control, security, fire alarm, telecommunications, television, and nurse call systems.

Proficient with numerous CADD and application software packages and computer systems including: Microstation, AutoCad, Symphony, Lotus, WordPerfect, TimeLine, Microsoft Windows and numerous other software applications.  Special interests include lighting design, system integration, PC networking and analysis, and computer programming.

Owner and sole proprietor of Sunderland Engineering, a consulting engineering firm in Durham NC from July 1994 to 2003.

Employed by DSAtlantic, a consulting engineering firm in Raleigh NC from September 1993 to June 1994. Served as senior electrical engineer and engineer of record for 10 man electrical group, under senior vice president, Tom Phelps PE.

Employed by OBrienAtkins, PA, an architectural firm in Research Triangle Park, NC from October 1990 to August 1993. Served as electrical group head and senior project engineer for 6 man electrical group under the director of engineering, Mike Edmondson PE. 

Employed by Schlup, Becker & Brennan PA, a consulting engineering firm in Kansas City MO from February 1985 to October 1990. Served as electrical project engineer under the head of electrical engineering, Terry Super PE.

Employed by A.C. Controls, a custom control panel manufacturing company in Kansas City MO from May 1984 to February 1985. Served as controls engineer under the supervision of the owner, Sean Dorsey. 

Employed by Armco Steel, a steel manufacturing company in Kansas City MO from April 1981 to August 1981. Served as engineering intern under the supervision of the head of plant engineering Dick Saxton.

Employed by Bob's Conoco, served as the lead mechanic for automotive repair facility in Independence MO from 1975 to 1978 and staff mechanic from 1981 to 1984.

Employed as the electrical maintenance supervisor for a fiberglass production company in Kansas City MO from 1979 to 1981.
